There is nothing wrong with emptiness; there is nothing harmful about darkness it is from the black void of the womb that a child is born - infinite creative potential is lurking in the shadows we just need to learn how to anchor within the dark forever connected to the golden heart of the source that spawned this Universe * * *
I am back to blogging after a little break in November. Most of last month was spent feeling more introvert, focusing my energy on finalising my novel Siege for publication. It will be ready to order very soon, available internationally online in paperback and e-book, so stay tuned for updates!
I have also been going back through some old journals, organising and collecting up material. The poem above jumped out at me: a reminder to transcend the dualist thinking of light as “good” and dark as “bad”. Also a reminder to take those pauses when we need: to retreat inward, to be with the silence and the stillness, from which so much magic may be born.
Those words also sparked a few reflections about the freezing environment where I am living right now. The cold, the snow, is inviting more time to be still and to simply be – in restful hibernation, and contemplation ahead of the coming new year.
Whereas some might describe the winter as a “gloomy” time, for me it carries a special brightness. Yes, most of the day is spent staying rugged up indoors: and that has its calming beauty. A surrender into “yin” after so much “yang”, and time spent outdoors when I am living in the tropics. It also makes the sunshine, on a short brisk walk out in the snow, more special. Those brief moments are savoured, before the frost bites any exposed skin, and forces a retreat into the warm cave of home.
December is often a busy time, the festive season bringing with it many social commitments and organisational responsibilities ahead of celebrations with family and friends. It can be a beautiful time of connection: but also, can be a hectic time of rushing and racing around.
Don’t forget to take time and make space for stillness. Don’t be afraid to honour the dark. To melt and surrender into the seasonal flow of winter, and practice simply Being.
With Love
