After the rain

The sky’s grey fury has been spent
From cascading tears, to gently
Whispering a final tribute
On a moist breeze haunting the fields

The trees, they bow beneath the wind
In a hesitant symphony;
Shaking the water from their leaves
They glisten and cease their mourning

Soft rays of sun reach out to pierce
Through the haze, the hesitant gloom
Daring to dispel the shadows
Left by grief’s persistent clutching

The scent of damp soil permeates
The newly christened autumn air
And you can taste it, nourishing
The heart which is ready to heal
