Deviant

There’s no going back once the heart opens

When the mind has deserted the flesh, to

Leave only the pure and raw soul behind

To connect with that which it wishes

It is the moment you cross the limits,

Arbitrary lines society draws

For how can it be said to be so wrong

To share yourself with the universe?

Like the blazing stars scattered through the sky

We are children of the elements, and

All vulnerable to the magnetic pull

Of forces fierce though they are unseen

You’ll find yourself drawn unexplainably;

To some but not others you will collide

Float in gossamer webs of honesty,

When it feels right to spill all secrets

Each star different, composition unique

No encounter can ever be the same

And by meeting so many reflecting orbs

You’ll see yourself in new, glowing ways

Each soul is precious, for different reasons

By sharing with them your life is enriched

With blissful beauty and such shining light

That takes you soaring with true delight

But still you may flinch, feeling hesitant

Fearing the judgment of the ignorant

Who frown, labelling you a deviant

For failing to guard your façade

Then pausing, you’ll find yourself questioning

Shunning the inner deep desires which burn

Yearning for openness, craving sweet love

That skips and sings, lacking all limits

And suddenly, what was pure becomes dark

Branded as sinful and shaming your name

Then sickened with yourself, you will tumble

From euphoric heights, back down to earth

Back to a world where you step cautiously

Trying to calm a rapid racing heart

And treading as though across broken glass

Your spirit’s dance loses its wild grace

Then until you embrace once again, the

Melodious music playing within

You’ll be haunted by a bleeding, longing

Whisper of the tortured, caged ghost of your fire
